The Lion's Face

Compassionate, heartfelt, strikingly dramatic and often witty, The Lion’s Face is a story of love, loss and family.

The story begins with a man forgetting his own birthday: a trivial thing, but one which signals an irreversible return to childhood. Told through theatre and music, this is a highly original and richly-textured take on ageing, and a look at the incomprehension of getting old in the minds of the young.

The opera engages audiences both emotionally and intellectually, providing a space for reflection and a stimulus for debate.

Poet Glyn Maxwell and acclaimed composer Elena Langer first worked together on The Girl of Sand for the Almeida Theatre, described as 'allusive, multilayered and often hauntingly beautiful' by the Evening Standard.

The Opera Group's co-production with Watford Palace Theatre and the Young Vic of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene won the 2008 Evening Standard award for Best Musical.
