Writer
Andrew Pollard

Andrew is a writer and performer. He has written three stage adaptations of classic children’s novels for Northern Broadsides Theatre Company - The Water Babies, Heidi (nominated for “Best Children’s Play” in the T.M.A. Awards 2009 and the Adrienne Benham Award for Children’s Theatre Writing 2010) and Treasure Island, which have all had Christmas residencies at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre and The Stables Theatre, Milton Keynes.Other family shows commissioned by The Stephen Joseph are - The Hunt for The Scroobious Pip (based on the nonsense writings of Edward Lear) and The Nutcracker Prince - which will be staged there this Christmas. He has also written four shows for smaller children for the Green Room Theatre in Manchester.

British Pantomime is one of his great passions and he has appeared in Panto every year for 15 years. He has written and appeared as Dame in six Pantomimes for Greenwich Theatre, London (this year will be his seventh) as well as writing the annual Panto for Richmond Theatre Royal - Britain’s oldest surviving Georgian Theatre.Andrew is also a long time member of the Bath based Natural Theatre Company and has written and performed in three shows for them - The Mad Hatter’s Christmas Party, A Night at the Bijou and The Silent Comedian.

Andrew was one of the winners of the Paines Plough/Bristol Old Vic writing competition with his comedy, Cross Purposes. This was subsequently staged at the Bristol Old Vic and then toured nationally. He also won HTV’s ‘Search for a sitcom” competition and his sitcom, ‘Spinnin’ it’ set in a Launderette was subsequently filmed and broadcast.

He was commissioned to write a play about Stan Laurel for Cornwall’s Zenith Theatre Company. The result, Laughing Gravy had a very successful tour of the South West and is to be revived next year.

Kate is a freelance director and Associate Director of Shared Experience Theatre.

Kate’s adaptation of The Little Prince has since been performed at Salisbury Playhouse and Bath Theatre Royal.

Kate has developed new work and directed rehearsed readings for The Royal Court, The Bush, Arcola, Hampstead Theatre and The Public, New York.

Kate also directs voice and motion capture for animation games at Side UK: most of 2010 has been spent directing Fable III and two Bond titles, Bloodstone and Goldeneye.

Cleo Pettitt

Cleo returns to Watford Palace following the tremendous success of her Aladdin design last year.

Training: BA (hons) Theatre Design and MA Scenography, UCE Birmingham; Linbury Prize for Stage Design finalist, 1997.

Recent work includes: Missing Persons, Trafalgar Studios; Art, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds; Ladies’ Cage, Royal Exchange Studio; Cinderella, Watford Palace; Around the World in 80 Days, Liverpool Playhouse; Company, The Wizard of Oz and Toad of Toad Hall, Palace Theatre, Westcliff; Swollen Tongues, national tour; Trust Byron, Gate Theatre and tour; Joyisms, Looking Glass Theatre, off-Broadway; Hedda Gabler, RSC Fringe.

Opera: The Marriage of Figaro, Lyric Hammersmith; Così fan tutte and Tosca, Christ’s Hospital, Horsham; Simon Boccanegra and The Merry Widow, Bloomsbury Theatre. Ian Saunders

Ian’s previous lighting designs at the Palace include Three Steps to Heaven, Wait Until Dark, and Cor Blimey as well as the site specific shows News From the Seventh Floor at Clements Department store and The Ring Road Tales at Destiny Nightclub.

Musical Director
Paul Herbert

Paul has worked extensively in the UK as a Musical Director, Composer, Arranger, Singing Teacher and Vocal Coach and is the Associate Musical Director for Perfect Pitch.

As a composer, Paul has written the music for several musicals including Ripper (recently performed at the New Players Theatre, London); The Perfect Wife Roadshow (UK tour and developed with Perfect Pitch) and Cinderella & Aladdin (Salisbury Playhouse). He composed the music for Health & Stacey and Hot Pursuit (Edinburgh Festival, performed by comedy duo Plested & Brown) and for Lovepik (a short film directed by Charles Harris). Paul is currently composing the incidental score for Noel Coward’s Design For Living (Salisbury Playhouse 2012).

He has provided the orchestrations for a number of musicals including Radio Times and Daisy Pulls It Off (actor/musician productions, The Watermill Theatre); Through The Looking Glass (by Piers Chater Robinson); Jet Set Go (by Pippa Cleary and Jake Brunger, orchestrations published by Josef Weinbergers) and Through The Door (by Laurence Mark Wythe and Judy Freed)

As musical director his credits include: Daisy Pulls It Off (Watermill, Newbury); The Last Five Years (Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Dubai/Bahrain & UK Tour); Legends, Icons and Idols (Orchard Theatre); Songs for a New World (Edinburgh). Earlier this year Paul returned to the Watermill Theatre to musically supervise and appear in Radio Times.

Paul was the MD and orchestrator for The Great British Musical – a fundraising concert in aid of Perfect Pitch which took place at the Criterion Theatre in April 2011. The concert was hosted by Stephen Fry and featured an 11 piece band and a number of West End stars including Alfie Boe.

Also for Perfect Pitch Paul has been responsible for numerous readings and workshops including Super Alice Smith, Teenwolf/Lost Boys, A Penguin’s Tale, Girlfriends and Through The Door for which he also orchestrated and musically directed the gala concert performance at Trafalgar Studios 1 in 2009. He was also musical supervisor and arranger for the Perfect Pitch Songbook and musically directed and orchestrated Perfect Pitch – In Concert 2009 (Edinburgh).

Paul was Head of Music at Bird College for five years and during that time was musical director for several shows including; Beguiled Again, Children of Eden, Copacabana, Bat Boy, Matchgirls, Godspell, My Favorite Year, A New Brain, Company, Into the Woods, Anything Goes, Closer Than Ever and Sweet Charity.

Paul is also a very experienced singing teacher and vocal coach, having trained in the Estill Method with Paul Farrington, Gillyanne Kayes and Maureen Scott.

Dominc Haslam

Dominic Haslam has been working as a composer, arranger and musical director since graduating from Bretton Hall College in 1998.

Recent projects include: The Prince of Homburg and Life Is a Dream (Donmar Warehouse); Romeo and Juliet (Exeter Northcott Theatre); Serious Money (Birmingham Rep); The White Devil (Menier Chocolate Factory); The Elephant Man (Sheffield Lyceum and UK tour); The Herbal Bed (Salisbury Playhouse); Henry V (Royal Exchange); Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Peter Pan (Churchill Theatre, First Family Entertainment); Danny Robins’ Music Therapy (BBC Radio 4); We Are History (BBC2, series 1 and 2); The Museum of Everything (BBC Radio 4, series 1, 2 and 3).

Short film credits include: The Rules of the Game, The Spider, The Meeting and The Killing (dir Tom Daley); Do Something for Nothing (BBC); and Three Men on a Roof (RSC).

Richard Fitch

Richard trained at the Young Vic and the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He is the recipient of the 2010 Sir Paul McCartney Human Spirit Award.

Directing credits include: The Boy Who Lived Down the Lane (Riverside Studios), Unclothed (The King’s Head Theatre), Please be Patient While You Love Me and Women (New Britannia Theatre), The Secrets Inside (Edinburgh Fringe) and The Pilliowman during training.

Assistant Directing credits include: Four Nights in Knaresborough (Southwark Playhouse), The Marriage of Figaro (Watermill Theatre), Lakeboat and Prairie du Chien (Arcola Theatre), The Machine Gunners (Polka Theatre), Double Falsehood (The Union Theatre and New Players Theatre – TimeOut Critics Choice), The Captive (Finborough Theatre) and The Great British Country Fete (National Tour and The Bush Theatre).

Richard has assisted workshops at the Young Vic and NT Studio. His next project is Assistant Director on an education project at the National Theatre.

Kay Magson

Theatre credits include: The Solid Gold Cadillac (Garrick); Dangerous Corner (West Yorkshire Playhouse/West End); Round the Horne… Revisited, Dracula (National tours); Singin’ in the Rain (West Yorkshire Playhouse, NT/National tour); Aspects of Love, All The Fun of the Fair and The Witches of Eastwick (National Tours); Kes (Liverpool and National Tour); Great Expectations (ETT/Watford and National tor),Sweeney Todd (Royal Festival Hall), The Lady In the Van (National tour).

Kay was resident at the West Yorkshire Playhouse for 17 years where she cast many shows including Hamlet, The McKellen Ensemble Season, the Patrick Stewart Priestley Season and many others, and also casts regularly for Salisbury Playhouse, Northampton Theatres (including Young America  at the NT),Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Hull Truck and the Manchester Library Theatre.  She was the casting director for the first CHESTER PERFORMS season.

She has just completed casting on Walk Like a Panther, a pilot TV for Finite Films.

Kay is a member of the Casting Director’s Guild of Great Britain (CDG).

Nadine Higgin - Jill

Nadine trained at Arts Educational where she studied for a three-year BA course in Musical Theatre.

Theatre includes: Little Shop Of Horrors (Kilworth House); Legally Blonde (The Savoy Theatre, West End); Peter Pan (Wimbledon Theatre); Hairspray (Shaftesbury Theatre West End) and Taylor in the London run of High School Musical.

Whilst at college Nadine played Asaka in Once on this Island, Saraghina in Nine, Betty Lorraine in Me and Juliet and Peep-Bo in The Mikado.

Nadine is thrilled to be a part of Jack and the Beanstalk and would like to thank all her friends and family for their love, support and encouragement throughout the years. She dedicates her performance to her beautiful mother who she knows is watching from heaven above.

Terence Frisch - Dame

Terry is really looking forward to doing Panto in Watford.  He was born, bred and, once more, lives in Harrow, considers the Palace his local theatre and has always wanted to work here. Previous Pantos include – Aladdin, Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Jack & the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.  Other recent theatre includes –The Manual Oracle (Von Held), Nocturnal (Rada), One Snowy Night (Slot Machine), Jerusalem (Royal Court), Lord of the Rings (Drury Lane), Romeo & Juliet (Globe), Oedipus (Actors of Dionysus), Educating Rita (Tour de Force), The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek (Royal Exchange), Richard III and The Changeling (both Third Party), Outside Edge (Mill at Sonning), Wait Until Dark (Southwold).  Recent TV – Holby City (BBC), Eastenders (BBC), Harry Hill’s TV Burp (Avalon) & Small Island (Ruby Films/BBC).  He will also be seen in the forthcoming feature film The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Martin Callaghan - Frank Furter

Martin was born and bred in Manchester and trained at The Abraham Moss Centre.

Aspects of Love, Cucurucu in The Marat/Sade,(AMC Theatre) Issachar/Baker in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,(UK tour) Uncle Pumblechook in Great Expectations,(UK Tour) Turkey in the National Theatre’s tour of HONK!, Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd, (Derby Playhouse) Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls at the Sheffield Crucible and Uncle Henry/The Emerald City Guard in The Wizard of Oz, at Birmingham Rep Theatre and The West Yorkshire Playhouse Leeds.

Martin has also played The Typesetter in Personals, written by the creators of the hit

comedy Friends, at the Apollo Theatre London; Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar on the UK tour and in the hit 1996 revival at the Lyceum Theatre London. Amos Hart on the UK and International tours of Chicago, Tevye in the 2008 UK tour of Fiddler on the Roof and most recently he played Smee in George Stiles and Anthony Drewe’s Peter Pan, at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Television, Film and Recording credits include: Prime Suspect, Concrete Chariots for

Granada, GBH for Channel 4, the Roasted Cygnet in Carmina Burana also for Granada and Asher in the film of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opposite Donny Osmond.

Martin has performed in concert up and down the country with The British Philharmonic, The City Concert Orchestra and The BBC Concert Orchestra; He can also be heard on the Cast Albums of Jesus Christ Superstar, Personals, Dear Father Christmas, Peter Pan and on the soundtrack album for the film Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Martin Doyle - Bonecrunch/Ensemble

Martin started performing at the age of 14 with the Birmingham Youth Show at the Rep Theatre.

As well as extensive work in theatre, Martin has regularly performed as part of comedy sketch group Bann-Joe, with whom he has toured in the midlands. He has appeared in various fringe shows from Berkoff to Brecht and a tour of Macbeth to France. Other theatre includes A Midsummer Night's Dream at Theatre Royal Bath, A New World -The Life of Thomas Paine at Shakespeare's Globe, The Jungle Book and
The Little Mermaid for Kazzum, and Scooby in the first national tour of Scooby Doo in Stagefright.

Martin has also appeared in numerous short films, including The Unfortunate Mr Oakley, Roulette, The Particle and the comedy horror Undying Love.

His television work includes Dr Titanias Advice to All Creation for Channel 4 and Discovery Channel and Numberjacks for Cbeebies.

TV credits include EASTENDERS, DOCTORS (BBC TV), PRIME SUSPECT 7, FINAL CUT (ITV/Granada) and THE BILL (Talkback Thames),

Laura also played the Doctor’s assistant Zara in DR WHO- THE JUDGEMENT OF ISSKAR/THE CHAOS POOL and the Spin off series GRACELESS (Big Finish Productions audio books).

Laura was a winner of the BBC Carleton Hobbs Radio Competition in 2002 whilst at drama school and so appeared in over thirty BBC Radio plays as part of the BBC Radio Rep Company.

Film credits include SWEET FANNY ADAMS IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN.

Milk Buttercup the Cow live onstage Competition
We’re looking for two children aged five to nine to come onstage during each performance to help Jack and Dame Trott milk Buttercup the cow. To enter the competition, children simply have to colour in the Buttercup at the Fair picture. Find out more here
